“Air is the very substance of our freedom, the substance of superhuman joy.... aerial joy is freedom.” -Gaston Bachelard
Unsurprisingly, Fredrix Vermin is an artist like many others who has been unable to shake the residual habits hung-over from an art school education, such as writing about himself in the third person, referencing over intellectualised academia and the use of foreign phrases to describe his practice. Vermin also considers himself to be an Auslander Künstler or “Outsider Artist” although since attending a formalised art institution to study, Vermin can no longer claim this title. Cultural obscenity, institutional critique and nonsense commonly feature in his practice and usually take the form of sculptural interventions, video and drawing that encompass archaic ideas of the future.
